Top Ten Reasons Why a Used Book Beats an eBook

10. You won’t short out your book if you spill something on it.
9. Pixels don’t have that same well-read feel.
8. If your kids step on your book, it won't cost hundreds to replace (usually).
7. Have you tried reading your laptop on the beach?
6. How about on public transportation?
5. The batteries won’t die in the middle of a chapter.
4. Trading eBooks isn’t as much fun.
3. You don't have to take it out of your carry-on for inspection.
2. Reading in the tub isn't life-threatening.

AMEN!

As a fellow book lover who is not above new media (ahem ... for instance my podcast, Forgotten Classics), I can't stand the idea of replacing real books with electronic ones.

Welcome to the blogosphere ... found you via Mark Shea. I'll be back!

Welcome, Julie D.! And thanks for the warm welcome.

Although I came of age before Al Gore invented the Internet, I was introduced to computing by my father, who loved gadgets and hi-tech toys. He brought home our first computer -- the Vic 20. It was love at first sight ...

Like you, I like the new technologies, and listen to podcasts (including yours, now) and read eBooks when it's convenient. But they'll have to pry my real books from my cold, dead hands ...

Amen again!

The struggle I have with passing by bookstores, whether for old or new ... is comparable with that of some people craving a drink, I believe. I know that in times of great trouble, I wind up buying books as a solace. At least it's a fairly harmless addiction ... and I am still resisting eBooks with everything I have. :-D

Preach it, sister! Staggering home, weighed down ... waking the next morning with an unabated thirst for just one more chapter ...
